Greta Van Susteren tweeted that she was surprised that MSNBC let her go
Greta Van Susteren is on the record as saying she was “surprised” that MSNBC decided to cancel her show “On the Record.”
While on the Twitter, someone asked Van Susteren if she knew beforehand that MSNBC was going to can her show.
And Van Susteren tweeted, “It surprised me.” The former “On the Record” host had been on the job less than six months before MSNBC decided to give her the boot.
Apparently, the signs were there that Van Susteren would soon be on her way out the door.
Vanity Fair quoted NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack as saying about the “On the Record” show, “It’s not breaking out. Everybody wants every new show to break out Day 1. I think it takes time. I’ve got a lot of patience.”
Welp, on June 29, 2017, Lack’s patience ran out and he decided to part ways with the former “On the Record” host.
Being the ardent fan of the press that he is, Donald Trump weighed in on why he thinks Van Susteren is no longer at MSNBC.
Trump tweeted that Van Susteren’s departure from the network is due to her unwillingness to bad mouth him.
For her part, Van Susteren denied Trump’s accusation and said that she is her own woman and is not tethered to anyone.
Van Susteren’s separation from MSNBC is her second separation from a major news network in less than a year.
On September 6, 2016, Van Susteren left the FOX News network where she had worked for over 10 years.
Van Susteren denied reports that her departure was due to her friend, the late Roger Ailes, resignation as FOX News CEO following the flood of sexual harassment claims against him.
However, the fact that the former “For the Record” host’s departure came on the same day that her former colleague, Gretchen Carlson, settled her sexual harassment claim against FOX News put a damper on Van Susteren’s claim that her departure resulted from a contractual issue and nothing more.
She was asked, on Twitter, why she hadn’t gone over to CNN, which had courted her before, and Van Susteren responded that CNN was not willing to give her a one hour time slot.
Since her departure from MSNBC, Van Susteren has received several job offers from folks via Twitter.
Van Susteren, though, says she’s not looking for anything at the moment and that her focus is on completing her book by August of this year.
